→ 09/01 The Arrival

「 Welcome to the world of POKEMON 」

"It will come to be. And in exchange..."
You wake up with a start. Thunder rolls across the sky, steamrolling the voices and the fog out of your head and replacing them with mottled grey on white— greyer in some spots than others, and if you're one of the unlucky ones, the greyest leaks cold water right down on your face. Drip... drip... drip... the intervals in between getting shorter and shorter until

SPLOOSH!!

The entire ceiling caves in and water and soggy drywall collapses onto your head, and those of several dozen others sharing this very open, very wet room. Rain pours down from overhead through the large hole in the middle of the ceiling, but the perimeter of the room is a little drier: about a dozen cots line the walls, not enough for the number of people here and so most must pick themselves off the ground. Other than a few curtained dividers now scattered across the flooding floor, the room is otherwise bare. White, grey, and very wet.

"Uh..." The only dry people in the room stand in the doorway: a girl who pulls her hood further over her head to keep the water off her face as she steps in to help the person nearest her up, and a boy who hangs back behind her, hesitant, staring at his feet a little guiltily until he looks up and catches somebody's eye, and he too steps forward to help people onto their feet. They introduce themselves as Chiaki Nanami and Minato Arisato, explain that they've arrived here a while ago in the exact same way as everybody here, and show off the purple and grey bands around their right and left ankles respectively, as if that is proof enough. Your unconscious bodies may or may not have been investigated while you were unconscious, but every person here will find some sort of band tattooed around a part of their body, some with a single pattern and some with two, some matching somebody else's and some unique to their own.

For those who want to hang back and ask questions, Nanami and Minato stick around and do their best to answer them, otherwise, you're free to go out in the rain and get soaked and wonder why this is your life.

→ 09/01 The Surroundings

It's actually not that bad, all things considering. Sure, it's raining all day nonstop, but the rain varies between pouring and sprinkling and is weirdly lukewarm, like a shower that doesn't have enough water pressure and can't get hot enough. Strange creatures called Pokemon roam about the town of Toran, many hiding from the rain and liable to attack when people unexpectedly stumble upon them trying to find shelter themselves, especially the arm-hungry bears who just want to nap under trees, but others are friendly and eager to help people sweep water out of buildings and patch up roofs.

Whether you woke up with one or stumbled across them later, you have your own strange creature too. Be friends. If you don't know anything about Pokemon, there are plenty of elementary schoolers eager to laugh at your ignorance and teach you everything you need to know about catching and training Pokemon, little four-year-old escorts around Toran to show you where to find them in the lake at the center of the island, the surrounding ocean, the patches of grass throughout the town. The ground is perpetually marshy, thick mud and tall grass slowing foot traffic and the spiderwebs of pavement connecting the other structures around town are covered with half squashed, wiggling worms(egments) that are almost unavoidable to step on unless it's during a lighter drizzle when the bird Pokemon are free to swoop down to pick the roads clean. Want to get some experience in Pokemon battling? These literal children will gladly pulverize you to the point of blacking out and take your money or whatever fun little trinkets you have in your pockets.

The building everybody arrived in turns out to be a hospital, with an adjacent building being a hospital for Pokemon- a Pokemon Center- which offers free shelter for travellers but is currently overflowing with people who are stranded on this island, even with so many visitors forced to resort to long term lodging in the town's small inn. Both the hospital and Pokemon Center stand right along the lakeside, water overflowing and nearly lapping against the front steps, which is home to an abnormally large 30-foot long Gyarados. It thrashes about in the middle of the lake and has been scaring all the other wild water Pokemon to the outskirts of the lake, blasting the nearby buildings and berry trees with torrents of water, and lashing out at anybody who tries to approach. Several fishing boats that have gotten too close have been smashed, but a few are left tied to the docks around the lake for braver trainers to use.

Large canopies have been set up over the berry gardens dotting the rest of the lakeside to keep the rain (and the occasional Gyarados hydro pump) from washing off the berries. The trees are tended to by gardeners with their grass Pokemon, and at times Minato with his Yamask covering his face, one black arm wrapped around his neck and the other lazily waving an arm to part the cloud of several hundred Combee buzzing protectively around the boy, trying to keep unfamiliar people away from the beehives as Minato makes his rounds checking up on each of the hives and picking up the fruit that has fallen or has ripened enough on the branches, offering berries to any person or Pokemon who's hungry.

Most of the buildings around town are doing well enough, despite the unending gloomy weather and too many people. The Daycare Center is particularly packed with Pokemon whose trainers are stuck outside of the island and unable to pick them up, and volunteers to help feed and care for the Pokemon are needed more than ever, especially the younger Pokemon who are fussy and upset at being away from their trainers for so long. Even the older Pokemon are a bit worried, and some of the daycare workers whisper about rumors of a pack of wild Drifloon seen around town whenever the rain calms down to a drizzle and luring little kids into the thick fog and getting them lost. There are also whispers about the hospital, hushed words about how it's haunted by the spirits of the deceased and that when a group of Murkrows gather around a patient's window, it's to mark that person with misfortune and death. Several posters of missing children are hung up around the Daycare Center, with the promise of a reward for any information or return of the children, and flyers begging for help to calm the residents at the hospital of their worries about the Murkrows or ghostly sightings.

The Game Corner arcade never knows silence with the constant flashing and chiming of the slot machines and roulette wheels, but don't be fooled with the frequent payouts seen at the machines Nanami and her Mimikyu sit at, because the odds are actually pretty low and the tokens can only be traded in for berries, common items, and Pokemon accessories. There are no windows in the Game Corner, and it is very easy to lose track of time inside— one elderly gentleman in a tophat can be seen at the same slot machine in the corner at all hours of the day, never eating or sleeping or doing anything else but mechanically pulling the lever, unresponsive to the rest of the world around him. He's going to hit the jackpot, he knows it. Just one more pull. One more pull...

The newest building in Toran is the boba shop, freshly painted in bright yellows and blues just before the storm hit and the colors remain bold against the grey sky. The "Grand Opening" sign still hangs above the front door despite opening over a month before, inviting customers inside to try their specialty: milk tea with Combee honey boba balls. Boba is half off for first-time customers, and you also get your stamp card stamped with a lavender Bulbasaur face, unique to Toran's shop. There are eight stamps total to be collected- fill up your stamp card for a special prize! But strangely enough, scattered throughout the town, people of various different ages slump against walls and on the ground, barely responsive and with empty cups of boba around them. They're ignored by the townspeople and despite the unnerving sight of these semi-vegetative citizens, lines to the shop are just as long as ever.

→ 09/02 The First Meeting

"Hahahahaha" - Ichi

After giving people some time to get settled, later in the evening of the second day, Nanami, Minato, and their Pokemon go around finding people with those mysterious bands marking them as isekai'd strangers to the island, and herd them towards the boba shop to Talk. About why they're all here, about that dream, about where to go from here...

As the group waits for the last of them to arrive, with a round of boba provided courtesy of Nanami and her small Game Corner fortune, chatter around the boba shop paints the same story: a storm has been raging for over a month now, with thunder and lightning, hurricane winds, and whirlpools making travel to and from the island too hazardous, trapping visitors on the island way past their expected length of stay. There are talks of strong Pokemon trainers having headed out into the storm to try and get help from other towns, most of them quickly forced to turn back, and others— whether they were lost at sea or managed to break through— never heard from since. Storms are never this bad here, the people say, they never last this long and they don't ever seem to be... sentient... getting a lot worse earlier yesterday when so many new people were found collapsed around the island and were brought to the hospital, intermittently throughout the past month whenever a trainer tries to leave the island, and the largest reaction from the storm over a month ago when a girl with pink hair and a boy with blue hair were found in the lake and dragged half-dead to the hospital.

The island has been isolated for well over a month now with nobody having any idea what's going on outside, but the arrival of so many people at once can't be a coincidence- it must signify the time for change. When something to this scale happens, people tend to look to the gods, the Legendary Pokemon, but if they're really the cause... it'll take effort from everybody in order to break through the storm to catch the attention of the Legendaries and reach the rest of the world.

⬥ Welcome to Pokespe! All characters wake up at the hospital by the lakeside and can explore the rest of the island. Players are free to play out Pokemon battles or wild Pokemon encounters, but please let a mod know when catching a new Pokemon so we can approve or decline the capture.
⬥ On the second day, Nanami and Minato will be available to answer questions about what they've found out in the month before everybody else arrived. They will each have an NPC toplevel for those who wish to speak with them, and characters present at the meeting are free to learn about the information shared without needing to thread with an NPC.
⬥To proceed to the next area for next month's log, characters must find a way to travel across the stormy ocean filled with whirlpools and choppy waves. Make sure to mention your efforts on the permanent AC page at the end of the month!
⬥ There are several other oddities and problems around town that characters may choose to help with or investigate, which may or may not help with escaping the island or have ties to the plot as a whole. i. sorry about the hospital
[ It's not entirely Minato's fault, but sorry anyways. He at least feels guilty enough to stick around and help people dry off when they first arrive, showing them outside and pointing out the shortest path to the nearest building, or finding towels that haven't been soaked already, or showing people the cafeteria where they can get complimentary hot chocolate and tea and see if the napkin dispensers have been refilled yet.

He doesn't talk much, but at the very least will reintroduce himself and mention he's been living here for a month or so, so he knows the town pretty well and can show you around if you're not the adventurous type. He also knows the best (aka driest) nap spots, so you can always hit him up for a quiet place to zzzz. ]

ii. someday... Combee farm dreams
[ They're not his Combee, but he likes to think they're friends. There's just not enough party slots and he can't bring himself to pick his """favorite""" twenty Combees and ostracize the rest, that's not fair ):

But throughout the month, Minato can be found at the berry gardens, and he's happy to show people around and point out what berries taste like what and what affects they have. Yes, he has tasted each and every type of berry growing on the island. Yes, he got massively ill and learned the hard way that not all berries are fit for human consumption, no matter how much Pokemon seem to enjoy them.

Other times, it's Minato but with a silver mask on his face: his Yamask's mask, and said Pokemon is taking its turn with his body, possessing him and munching on some berries without care that the moment Minato gets his own body back, he's going to throw it all up. Yamask!Minato will offer anybody who passes by berries too! But she will not tell you what they taste like or what they will do. You like surprises, right? Yeah! ]

iii. SLAMS MY DESK FOR DOUBLE BATTLES PLEASE
[ When Minato's not tending to the berry trees, he's tending to the Combee hives, harvesting the extra honey and attracting nearly half the island's wild Pokemon population in the meanwhile, so it may or may not be in your best interest to be nearby during honey hours, because he's getting swarmed with multiple Pokemon at once and his Yamask isn't able to keep up.

You make the mistake of making eye contact with Minato and you're getting drawn into a Pokemon battle with him. It might be a good opportunity to learn how to battle, or catch one of these Pokemon for yourself. ]

iv. gently touches my desk for Pokemon... battles...
[ The one Pokemon Minato doesn't look forward to battling is that Gyarados demolishing all his trees, and his Yamask doing all she can do protect them. She's great at defense, flitting around from tree to tree and setting up invisible wards to deflect any stray hydro pumps, and occasionally disabling one of Gyarados' attacks for a time.

There is no winning this battle; it's just damage control. But every little bit helps, and it doesn't matter who you are or what Pokemon you have: if you've come by to help, Minato can find a way for you to help. ]

[ For anything else you'd like to play! Minato can be found at any location doing whatever the heck to play out whatever scenario. When he wears Yamask's mask, he gets possessed and she takes over his body, so she's free to thread against too! As a Pokemon, she will be able to talk to people about Pokemon in general, information about the region, current events, etc., while Minato can be found in the npc toplevel on IC day 2 for plot related questions. ]

ɪ. ɴᴏᴛ sᴏʀʀʏ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ

[ It's a good thing that Nanami is as slow as she is because if she walked into the room any faster, she would have gotten completely drenched (again) and she would have been quite upset about that. As she pulls her hood further over her head, the Mimikyu in her bag jumps out and lands onto the floor, following her as she walks to the closest person to offer her hands. She won't say anything right away, but if the character she's helping already has a Pokemon... ]

Oh, you have a [ insert Pokemon here ].

ɪɪ. sʜᴇ's ɢᴏɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ɢᴇᴛ ʀɪᴄʜ ᴠɪᴀ ɢᴀᴍʙʟɪɴɢ

[ Later throughout the day, Nanami will be found in her usual hangout area: the Game Corner. She occasionally switches between games, going from the slot machines to the card flips to the roulette wheels and finally, to the Dodrio Berry Picking kiosks. Although these games vary differently in the rules and style of playing, there is one consistency between all of them: Nanami always wins without even blinking an eye. It's gotten to the point that she has three trays of tokens completely filled to the brim and her Mimikyu struggles with carrying another two. ]

[ If you catch her while she's playing, it'll take a while before she'll answer. She gets so engrossed in her games that she often ignores everything else until she finishes. Sometimes, she even forgets to breathe so it can get pretty serious... However, if you come by while she's walking to her next game or when she finishes one of her machines, she will finally take notice and speak up, tilting her head. ]

Do you want to play with us?

[ Us = her and Mimikyu. She'll give you an entire tray of tokens to play with if you agree. ]

ɪɪɪ. ᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢᴢ

[ Eventually, Nanami leaves the Game Corner and goes outside. However, if you think that she's going to do anything productive, think again. The nice sound of the rain pitter-pattering against the tops of the berry gardens' canopies is relaxing and she's been yawning all day long, so after taking a nice spot near a big tree, she falls asleep. Mimikyu is wrapped around in her arms and they take a long nap right there. In fact... it might be a little too long. ]

[ Even as hours pass and the sun goes down for the moon to come up, Nanami and Mimikyu will still be found sleeping underneath their nice tree. They'll stay here all night long if no one wakes them up to take them away. Please be a kind soul and do exactly that before she catches a cold or falls onto her side and drowns in a puddle or something. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. ]

ɪᴠ. ᴡɪʟᴅᴄᴀʀᴅ

[ Nanami will mostly be spending time in the Game Corner, but she can be found in other locations! She'll especially have the bad habit of playing her games, walking into people, and refusing to move for a full uncomfortable minute so you are free to meet her that way. Asides from that, she'll be available as a general Pokedex (even the games released after her time shhhh) and be found on the NPC top-level for any plot-related questions! ]

i. elite salaryman itaru wants to fight!

[ at this point, itaru should be used to being isekai'd in various worlds now. he's seen better, he's seen worse, etc. and this world in particular is definitely one of the better ones because this time he's actually familiar with it. after all, who hasn't dreamed of living in a pokemon world? can't be itaru, the kid-at-heart that he is.

and this kid-at-heart is probably better to deal with than the actual kids in town who are out for blood, so he's going to offer a wave at anyone who's looking a little confused about... all this. ]

Here, battle me. This isn't my first time dealing with this kinda world, so I'll take it easy with you if you want.

[ his bag ruffles around a bit and his rowlet peeks out, still fiddling with his smartphone. hi there. ]

Oh shit, a legit game corner...

[ since they've been gone since gen 5, cries. so of course itaru won't miss out on this. and honestly, that crotchety old guy who's been here for days will be him in the future, because his additive personality strikes and soon he's slumped against the slot machine, post-gacha regret hitting him like a truck. ]

Just... one more roll... Need to spark...

yeah he's completely lost it. and by it i mean his wallet. ]

iii. something about boba tea i got nothing

[ boba is something that itaru hasn't thought he'd miss until now, so he's not missing out on this either. while he's contemplating on getting a part-time job at the ship to replenish his wallet, he can't really ignore the people passed out on the streets in what looked like a boba overdose??

stares at his own unsipped boba drink and at the person who just so happens to be there like uhhhhh ]

[ You said the magic word, Nanami. Now she'll be here forever. Efi looks really excited at the prospect and her eyes look like they're shining. She's been watching her play and Deino is hungry, but food can wait. ]

[ Efi was just looking around and she's wondering what happened to the unresponsive people, but when asked to play, they don't respond. So when Itaru tells her she can have the boba drink, her eyes shine. ]

[ She gladly takes it from his hands. Wow! It's a new drink! ]

What drink is it though? Is it sweet? Like candy?

[ Minato plops down at the machine next to Itaru's. Itaru isn't the gamer he had come here to see, but it looks like the guy needs a bit more help than Nanami at the moment. He's going to give Itaru the benefit of the doubt that "spark" means inspiration and not "I'm going to blow this place up if I don't get a match is2g" and sets a stack of twenty more coins on the top of Itaru's head.

Go and get that win streak, he believes in you. ]

[ Rain or not, Efi is always here to help others in need. So when she sees Minato and Yamask getting swarmed by something that resembles beehive portions with faces, she runs up one when smacks one with her hand. That's how she's used to fighting.

It surely is ineffective... and Deino stands there, looking like he's hungry because there is honey nearby. ]

[ it's obligatory to listen to exposition anyway, though the difference is that itaru can't just skip through minato's dialogue even after he reintroduces himself. but one detail catches his attention - ]

One month? But-- I could've sworn I've seen you in the previous world I was in.

[ uh oh ]

[ UH—

Just going to reach out and hoist Efi into the air from under her armpits, because that's a face-eating Ursaring she just smacked, and plops her down in front of a Caterpie, because she can probably defeat a bug, even without her Pokemon's help. The Caterpie starts sucking on her shoe.

Yamask will have to go solo in the meantime. ]

Does the Gyarados thrash about in the lake 24/7 or does it actually sleep at night?

[ Button mash A to make Minato shut it. He would have loved the option to just skip over everything he had to say with the assumption that Itaru already knows everything, but anything more he has to say dies in his throat when he hears that.

He's very bad at discerning ages and can't tell if Itaru is a legit adult or not, but he takes a stab at it anyways: ]

Um. Sorry, do you work at Gekkoukan...?

[ Are you a teacher keeping tabs on his attendance or what, because graduation already passed and it's done, the teachers can't fail him anymore. ]

[ Poor Facehugger... Unfortunately, the Caterpie doesn't look any dangerous other than for the cleanliness of her shoe, so Efi just lets it do that. She ain't afraid of face eating bears. Meanwhile, Efi looks over to Deino. They're both dragons, so he should be able to do this too, right? ]

Breathe fire!

[ It's... not exactly the same, but Deino uses Dragon Breath at some of the Combees. ]

[ The closest Combee gets a direct hit and all three of their faces go O: O: O:!! before it faints and hits the ground. The rest of the Combees buzz angrily, and the noise grows with a whistle as wind starts to pick up and a huge gust of wind blows across the area from the outskirts towards the lake.

Minato isn't very heavy himself, but he's the heavier one, so he reaches out to grab Yamask's hand and also Efi's, turning his head towards the Combee and shouting something to the effect of ]

Stop it, guys, she's just—

[ But the words are drowned out in the gust, because what? because she doesn't know better? because she doesn't mean it? There are plenty of punkass kids who beat on the Combee and steal their honey around here, but he wanted to give Efi the benefit of the doubt. ]

It thrashes around mostly when people get too close, but at night when nobody is around, it does go to sleep! It's a somewhat light sleeper, though, and will rouse if it hears something enters the water. Best be quiet around this one...

[ Efi sure looks surprised, but maybe she should have expected this from how many there were. She grabs onto Deino's mane, and... he isn't any better at 38 pounds, but it's something. ]

[ Though from what Minato said, she has a confused look on her face. ]

The bees are your friends?

[ Nanami should never leave the Game Corner because then how is Minato supposed to be able to find her? It's already daybreak when he finds her, and it's by accident because he was here for the berry trees, actually. Nanami had already fallen to her side with her face half submerged in a puddle, and Minato crouches down in front of her for a moment before reaching out and sitting her upright again.

...He tilts her head forward too, chin down, so the gross rainwater can drain out of her mouth. ]

You're welcome.

[ Their collective weights are maybe almost enough, though he still takes the opportunity to hook a leg around a nearby berry tree they're getting dragged past, hoping the root system will hold until the gusts die down. He pulls Efi close to him so she can do some of the clutching and he can give his poor arm a break— the wrist on the side holding onto her is wrapped up, and may or may not have been broken at some point. ]

They're my friends. They're just trying to protect their-

[ The wind knocks a hive loose from the tree and it conks Minato on the forehead. Thick golden honey splatters on both his and Efi's faces while the rest of the hive tumbles into the lake. ]

...honey.

[ A thousand pairs of Pokemon eyes turn towards the two of them. ]

ɪ. ᴏʜ ɴᴏ ᴀ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ :(

[ Niko wakes up to a torrential downfall of water when the ceiling collapses. Luckily for her, she doesn't get any soggy drywall in her hair, but she's absolutely drenched and she's not wearing more than simple hospital gown. Immediately, she starts shivering and wrapping her arms around her, sitting upright. Her skin is pale and she looks frail, as if even a slight breeze might knock her down. She slowly looks around and makes no movements to get off her wet cot. ]

Is... this the hospital...?

[ She's been to many different rooms in the hospital, but she hasn't seen this one before. Was she brought her while she was asleep? They normally move her while she's awake but sometimes, she doesn't get that luxury. ]

ɪɪ. ғᴜᴄᴋ ʏᴏᴜ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ >:(

[ A slight breeze does eventually knock Niko down because as soon as she gets to the front doors of the hospital, a gust of wind and rain blow through and send her falling to the ground. She didn't even stand (haha) a chance and she struggles with getting back up to her feet, having to grip the walls. You'd think that'd be enough for her to give up, but not at all. She marches right outside, in her gown and with thin slippers. ]

[ She doesn't want to stay here any longer and there aren't any nurses or doctors to stop her so she's leaving. Yes, this weather is awful and she most likely will get sick(er), but she wants to explore and she'll figure something out. She'll go to another building or find shelter underneath the canopies. She just has to be anywhere but here. ]

[ ... please feel free to actually talk some sense into her or find her when she falls over again for the 32838205th time. ]

ɪɪɪ. ᴀɴɪᴍᴀʟ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟs ᴀʀᴇ ɢᴏᴏᴅ ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜ

[ Eventually, after wandering around outside for way longer than she should, she finds herself a Rockruff! Nice. However, he has a bad back leg and can't walk, so she carries him in her arms. She wants to help him, but she doesn't know how and as a result, she wanders around aimlessly. ]

E-- Excuse m--

[ She sneezes. The Pokemon squirms and looks up at her. She's shivering. ]

Is-- Is there a vet?

ɪᴠ. ᴛʜɪs ɪs ᴡʜʏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ sᴀʏ ғᴜᴄᴋ ʏᴏᴜ ᴛᴏ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟs

[ Unsurprisingly, Niko eventually collapses and Rockruff will bark at anyone nearby, calling for help. Someone take this dumb girl back to the hospital where she clearly belongs and where she now needs to be treated for her fever. This sucks :/ ]

i - 9/1, the wet building

[ She wakes up in the building like everyone else and she's one of the luckier ones to avoid the huge splash of water when it caves in from the ceiling. Her cute maid dress is still wet here and there though. There's a Deino biting at her, in which she whines and mumbles "don't bite me".

But she eventually gets used to it and she makes a new dragon friend by splitting her Legendary Cookie in half to share with Deino, since he must have been hungry.

A) Anyway, Deino will be biting at other people too, in an attempt to search for food. Gimme.

B) Efi is looking down at her ankle when the guides showed them theirs and lo and behold. She has the the dragon and psychic ones wrapped around them. She had to pull her kneesock down for this though. She tries scrubbing it out with her hand, but it's not working. Tattoos are bad, the game says. ]

ii - around town

[ Efi would usually go up to random people and asking them if they want to play, but there's something about the people that are unresponsive around the town that's... weirding her out. ]

Won't they catch a cold...?

[ She says that, despite getting the feeling that maybe. Just maybe, that shouldn't be at the top of her list of worries. ]

iii - what is a human

[ When she sees the Ursarings around, she points at says: ]

That's a human.

[ ???

She looks over to Deino. ]

He's a dragon.

[ She looks over to your pokemon. If it's one of these pokemon, she'll say it's a human. If not, she'll say it's a dragon.
