The nightmare is finally over and the aftermath sinks in. Wherever you are, news will eventually spread that the pokemon stopped their rampaging status, looking confused and some horrified by what had happened around them. Mari's Steelixes are finally off their guard duty, people are crying out of various emotions and people who are physically well enough flood out of the shelters in an attempt to search for their loved ones out there, whether they be people or pokemon. Some are reunited, some are not. Either way, people are in this together, comforting others over their losses and rebuilding the city. There's been quite a lot of destruction apart from the Pokemon Center and the hospital, after all. Some buildings are missing a roof, holes on the side wall, doors knocked down... some are unfortunate to have been entirely blasted away by an extremely strong rampaging pokemon's hyper beam (thanks, random Hydreigon).

After most people calm from their initial high emotions, the reconstruction starts. Of course, they also contact the people from Toran who helped with reconstruction efforts. Looks like the handymen will never rest...

The Pokemon Center is looking for additional manpower, getting pokeballs here to there, labeling whose pokemon are whose in things looking like incubators for those in queue of getting healed, and managing supplies. They are extremely short-staffed right now, so they will be looking for any help possible. Though, if you cause too much trouble than helping, you may be politely asked to leave or to help somewhere else. They don't have time for this. During the nights, the Pokemon Center may be crowded. After all, many people just lost their homes. They got nowhere to go.

The hospital is similar, in which they are also short-staffed. They're looking for disaster volunteers, and especially pokemon with healing capabilities to lessen the load on doctors and nurses who need to care for the more gravely wounded. With more help, the hospital will no longer seem as chaotic as before, but more along the lines of an orderly busy time. It helps that the people are no longer stuck inside due to the ongoings of the events outside, so the hospital is emptier than before, compared to when it was jam packed. The mental health department is also using Drowzees and Munnas to give people good dreams and eating nightmares without repercussions so that they can have a good night's rest. Not all wounds are physical, after all.

With the local Mart's help and other establishments, some people band together to supply people with food and drinks in a very open area in the park. Take a breather and eat something. If you look like you're running yourself ragged, one of the townspeople will drag you to eat and drink a proper meal. They don't need another patient in the hospital right now.

Remember that boba shop? Or those restaurants that you had the delicious meat from? Their damages vary from a broken window to being absolutely trashed. Pokemon and people alike are helping with moving the debris and cleaning up the mess. Someone piped up about recycling broken glass to make brand new windows with fire pokemon and proper glass making methods, so please don't throw them away!

The Radio Tower and the cemetery tower? They're both closed off to the public right now with yellow police caution tapes all around them. Your friendly policemen who all look the same advise nearby people to stay away from the two buildings at the moment. Please don't cause trouble or ask them questions... they're tired as it is like everyone else and they're not allowed to say anything for now, if ever. Your energy is better used elsewhere.

[Yoichi nods, it was in the ocean.]

There were whirlpools, and the city wasn't on fire when I saw it first, but by the time I got here, everything was chaotic.

[Sagi. This guy had been mentioned by name.]

Yes, that was him. He was very helpful. I'm Yoichi. I guess it's nice to meet you, but...

[He waves his hand at the state of Mango City.]

Yeah, no, I feel you. Chaotic is one word for it. It's just bad timing.

[Timing... The word gives him an idea. He scratches his chin.]

...But I don't want to be a downer. If you're still up for a battle, Yoichi, I might have some time after all. [He hazards a friendly smile.] They won't be expecting their delivery at the Centre just yet.

[Mostly because he only loaded that entire crate of medical supplies into a card when he was certain nobody was watching. Overexplaining himself is tiresome lately.]

No, it's fine if you have somewhere to be. I'm only trying to.. acclimate, and it seems battles are what people do.

[He hasn't had to deal with any disasters like this, and he's sort of lost and very out of his element. Previously almost consumed with single-minded focus, his entire reason for getting up in the morning doesn't exist here.]

They sure are. They get really into it, too. Honestly, you fooled me.

[Congrats on this dazzling achievement of blending in better than someone with bird wings.]

Alright, I'll come back here in five. I just need to drop some supplies off. Unless you changed your mind.

[There is still no sign of said supplies, because they're in a card and the card is in his pocket.]

[There are no supplies visible, and though Yoichi now knows there are people from different worlds, he hasn't thought about any potential powers, nor technology beyond what was available to him. The only conclusions are either Sagi was making excuses, or he hasn't yet collected the supplies to be dropped off.]

Do you need help?

If not, he'll hang around and battle any children who show up.]

Thanks, but I'll be fine. Later!

[With that, he runs off. True to his word, he returns to this same street a little under five minutes later, walking rather than running this time.

A schoolkid has beaten him here, however. She has a Snorlax. The sidewalk is now impassable.]

[He is failing this battle hardcore. His Corphish has been given conflicting commands, because Yoichi can't focus on anything but that kid's Snorlax. The images from the magazine he'd seen will not leave his brain.

The girl stands there with a raised eyebrow; this guy is not even worth fighting. He keeps averting his eyes every few seconds and looking skittish and uncomfortable. She wins without much effort, looking down in disgust. She's had better battles with her eight year old cousin and he's not even old enough to have his own Pokemon. Lame. She collects her Snorlax and walks away.]

[scension]

[The obstructed sidewalk caused this literal curbstomp battle to attract a small crowd of onlookers, but once it's over they disperse and go about their business, mostly looking disappointed. Sagi, however, walks over to Yoichi instead.]

Geez, are you all right? That looked like a lot of pressure.

[Maybe he got performance anxiety? Sagi doesn't, as a rule, but can sympathise.]

[Yoichi looks at Sagi, somewhat confused. He's had minimal experiences with this kind of hesitancy, almost none. He's made wrong decisions last minute resulting in failure, and regretted them, but he's never fucked up this badly all on his own.]

It was...

[Was it the pressure that got to him, and the Snorlax's arrival only being the last straw? This world is so unlike his, even though he's played Pokemon. It's real, and tangible, and none of his skills help whatsoever. Yoichi's made a few mental notes on battles, but every person he encounters does something different and there doesn't seem to be any rules. He's suddenly just an onlooker, not physically participating in these skirmishes, and it's hard.]

I froze.

It's okay. It takes some getting used to.

[It's about all he can say without knowing Yoichi nearly well enough to guess what he seems so disoriented about, but it seems like a safe bet.]

Well, your friend isn't in any shape to go another round yet. Do you know where to go to get them patched up?

[Poor Corphish has taken too many beatings already.]

The Pokemon Center.

[It seems he's been there before.]

Yep. [Sagi smiles lopsidedly. It didn't take him long to learn that one out of necessity, either.] So if you want to try again, how about we go there together? I'll just wait outside.

[He just came from the Centre, so he's aware that they don't have space for loiterers right now.]

[299z]

Sure.

[He's battled so many times today, but he will never quit until he drops from exhaustion.

The guy at the front desk of the Pokemon Center gives Yoichi a look when he walks in. It's very crowded. They have other things to worry about, like Pokemon hurt in the rampages, but the Corphish is healed yet again.

Yoichi immediately leaves to find Sagi.]

[Sagi isn't hard to find - when he said he'd wait outside, he literally meant waiting outside the door, leaning against the wall of the building and watching some of the relief volunteers out in the street. He turns his head when Yoichi calls out.]

Sure. [He figures they probably have enough space right where they're standing without getting in anyone's way. What's the worst that could happen?] What are we doing? 1v1?

I only have one?

[If that's what 1v1 means.]

Alright, so we stop when one of them goes down. Let's get started.

[First, he brings his wings into full, shimmering view - it's still important for a friendly trainer match, it's psychological or something. Next, he raises a Pokeball high above his head.]

Lead us now to victory...! Here goes, Sigilyph!

[A large, garish, multicoloured monstrosity with flowing tendrils for wings bursts out of the ball. It fixes its eyestalk on Yoichi and shrieks.]

[Internally screaming. What the fuck is it? This is not a Pokemon he remembers, though really only the cute ones have stuck in head; Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Squirtle. That sort of thing. Sigilyph is some weird alien creature. Yoichi has no idea what its attacks could be.

He releases his Corphish without any flair, the initial energy for battling long gone by now. The lobster strikes a pose, all shiny and newly healed. What has he not used yet?]

Taunt!

[Maybe the Corphish can tired out its opponent by making it use its energy for attacking, while protecting itself with Shell Armour... or something to that effect.]

[scension]

Huh. Which one was that, again...

[Taunt was... damn, it's one of those unintuitively named ones, isn't it? The one that sounds like it should have something to do with drawing enemy fire, but doesn't really. Sagi tried to study up a little on the more formal battle stuff earlier in the month, but his recollection of the details has been slightly scrambled by the past few days.]

Aw, who cares! [He throws his arm, and the thought, dramatically aside.] Sigilyph, Wind Cutter!

[That isn't the name of any of Sigilyph's moves, but it decides that Air Cutter is close enough to shell this strangely infuriating lobster. With a flap of its finger-wings and another loud scream, it summons a concentrated burst of wind that feels razor-sharp.]

[The screaming is intimidating, and Yoichi makes a mental note to obtain some kind of loud Pokemon once he figures out how to actually catch them. Maybe a bird of some sort.

Corphish stops taunting to brace for the wind, but it's only a few seconds of resistance. Then, the shell begins to show signs of cracking, close to the seams of the sections. How much can it withstand?]

[scension]

Keep it up! It's breaking!

[The yelling is necessary, since it makes Sagi feel more like he's contributing. Sigilyph shrieks again, and more bursts of cutting wind materialise, slicing at Corphish's claws and legs.]

[299z]

[The shell gives way in several places, pieces flaking off in the wind and leaving the Corphish vulnerable and flailing against the assault.]

[scension]

[The sight of the little lobster struggling against the wind does make Sagi feel bad for it. Before his next order, he shoots a slightly concerned look over at Yoichi - is he just used to this kind of thing, despite being a newer arrival? But Corphish is still hanging in there, so this match isn't quite done yet... Better to end it quickly, then.

He brandishes his hand, and a wing.] It's over! Psybeam!

[He remembered that move name! He's been studying. Sigilyph's three eyes burn a bright cyan, and in the next instant, a bright pink beam of light shoots forward from its eyestalk like a laser.]

[Corphish is going to have to have a lot of battles to obtain better moves, and Yoichi is prepared for that. He has no personal attachment to his Pokemon, and watching the lobster get fried by an eye laser brings nothing but an annoyed sigh. The Corphish twitches uselessly.]

Looks like you win.

[At least they're near the Pokemon Center.]

[scension]

[Sigilyph shrieks loudly before Sagi can respond. Is it pleased with its victory, demanding praise from its trainer, or something else? Nobody knows. Sagi steps over to give it a head-rub anyway, now that there's no longer crossfire to avoid.]

Yeah, but you two stuck it out longer than I thought. It's not like I asked you if you wanted us to go easy.

[So... he didn't.]

You'll pick it up in no time. Just, maybe after the little guy rests up for today.

[Yoichi doesn't appreciate those platitudes and the insinuation he needed an easy fight. Sagi is now on his list of people to crush and make cry later, and he has no doubts he will succeed in that.]

Yeah, he just needs to rest!

[He concedes amicably, but all he's thinking about is revenge and future domination.]
