The nightmare is finally over and the aftermath sinks in. Wherever you are, news will eventually spread that the pokemon stopped their rampaging status, looking confused and some horrified by what had happened around them. Mari's Steelixes are finally off their guard duty, people are crying out of various emotions and people who are physically well enough flood out of the shelters in an attempt to search for their loved ones out there, whether they be people or pokemon. Some are reunited, some are not. Either way, people are in this together, comforting others over their losses and rebuilding the city. There's been quite a lot of destruction apart from the Pokemon Center and the hospital, after all. Some buildings are missing a roof, holes on the side wall, doors knocked down... some are unfortunate to have been entirely blasted away by an extremely strong rampaging pokemon's hyper beam (thanks, random Hydreigon).

After most people calm from their initial high emotions, the reconstruction starts. Of course, they also contact the people from Toran who helped with reconstruction efforts. Looks like the handymen will never rest...

The Pokemon Center is looking for additional manpower, getting pokeballs here to there, labeling whose pokemon are whose in things looking like incubators for those in queue of getting healed, and managing supplies. They are extremely short-staffed right now, so they will be looking for any help possible. Though, if you cause too much trouble than helping, you may be politely asked to leave or to help somewhere else. They don't have time for this. During the nights, the Pokemon Center may be crowded. After all, many people just lost their homes. They got nowhere to go.

The hospital is similar, in which they are also short-staffed. They're looking for disaster volunteers, and especially pokemon with healing capabilities to lessen the load on doctors and nurses who need to care for the more gravely wounded. With more help, the hospital will no longer seem as chaotic as before, but more along the lines of an orderly busy time. It helps that the people are no longer stuck inside due to the ongoings of the events outside, so the hospital is emptier than before, compared to when it was jam packed. The mental health department is also using Drowzees and Munnas to give people good dreams and eating nightmares without repercussions so that they can have a good night's rest. Not all wounds are physical, after all.

With the local Mart's help and other establishments, some people band together to supply people with food and drinks in a very open area in the park. Take a breather and eat something. If you look like you're running yourself ragged, one of the townspeople will drag you to eat and drink a proper meal. They don't need another patient in the hospital right now.

Remember that boba shop? Or those restaurants that you had the delicious meat from? Their damages vary from a broken window to being absolutely trashed. Pokemon and people alike are helping with moving the debris and cleaning up the mess. Someone piped up about recycling broken glass to make brand new windows with fire pokemon and proper glass making methods, so please don't throw them away!

The Radio Tower and the cemetery tower? They're both closed off to the public right now with yellow police caution tapes all around them. Your friendly policemen who all look the same advise nearby people to stay away from the two buildings at the moment. Please don't cause trouble or ask them questions... they're tired as it is like everyone else and they're not allowed to say anything for now, if ever. Your energy is better used elsewhere.

[ Fai's a little used to getting a surprised reaction when he reaches out to people, so it doesn't phase him too much especially since Sagi doesn't seem bothered. Such is the life of being a touchy person around people who aren't. ]

So am I.

[ He wasn't sure if they would, but they did get out of it and that means something. Even though Fai is still struggling to work through everything that happened. ]

You did a great job, by the way. I don't know what I would have done without you there.

[scension]

Figured something out, I'm sure.

[He takes another bite of his sandwich, finally.]

The Pokemon did all the work, anyway... as always. Still can't exactly say I'm used to that.

[partymagician]

It's a bit hard to get used to.

[ Although he's used to letting one of his travel companions take care of everything most of the time, so maybe he's already used to it. ]

I like to think of it as working with them as part of a team. We grow close to them and take care of them, and in return they fight for us.

[scension]

Yeah, that tracks. [That's roughly the mental framework he's settled on over the past couple of months, but it's always reassuring to hear this kind of thing from someone else.] I just never expected to add "monster tamer" to the resume like this, I guess.

[partymagician]

[ He laughs. ]

Neither did I!

[ But now he's wondering... ]

What else is on your resume?

[ They've been around each other a number of times, but Fai still feels like he doesn't know him all that well. When's a better time to find out a little more about him? ]

[scension]

Um, imperial army stuff, mostly. Regular grunt, then elite unit... then ambassador, kind of, even though that one turned out a little phony. Then I quit.

[Don't mind this babyfaced teenager casually counting off his previous military jobs on his fingers like he isn't saying anything weird.]

How about you, Fai? What do you do?

[partymagician]

[ He raises his eyebrows as Sagi lists off the positions he's had. Wow... what is his world like, to have someone so young rise in the ranks like that? ]

Ah, I'm a magician! A mage, warlock... however you call it in your world.

[ It doesn't really apply much anymore, though, so he adds: ]

I'm also a traveler. I travel through different worlds with a few companions.

[scension]

Wow, so you do this a lot? That must make it easier to take things in stride.

[Maybe that's why Fai usually seems laid-back, he thinks. Maybe it's just stress that has him overworking himself.]

I like travelling when it's with friends too, but going from island to island isn't really the same as different worlds.

[partymagician]

You're right, it isn't. Most worlds are completely different from one another, so there's more of an adjustment to be had than going to different islands.

[ Some things are the same, though, like finding a new job in each town. ]

I will say that this world is one of the more unusual ones, though.

[ And more stressful. Nothing like last month ever happened in any of the worlds he's been to. ]

[scension]

I'd believe it. Sometimes it's the little things that throw me off, not the whole... sentient monsters thing.

[Absently, completely on impulse, he peels back the top of his mostly-eaten sandwich and sticks the bread in his mouth by itself. Tastes like bread.]

[partymagician]

[ He just watches Sagi eat the bread. That's certainly one way to eat a sandwich. ]

What little things have thrown you off?

[scension]

...Is this a quiz? Am I being graded?

[He does not know why he did that to the sandwich, but now his mouth is full again, so he wasn't going to answer properly yet anyway.]

[partymagician]

[ He laughs. ]

It is! If you give me the wrong answer, I'll take away the rest of your sandwich.

[ But really... ]

I'm just curious if we've been thrown off by similar things.

[scension]

Aw man, then I'd better get it right.

[Sagi plays along, but his laughter is just slightly hesitant. Fai is joking... right?]

It's hard to pin down. People here are pretty nice overall, and they work really hard. [Like at the volunteer food stall he dragged Fai away from.] But they never seem... curious, I guess? About other towns or cities. They're not even all on different islands. It's normal for people to think about their homes first and foremost, it just... yeah, throws me off a little, how stubborn they are about it. ...Stubborn isn't the word. I don't know how to describe it.

[partymagician]

[ That slight hesitance has Fai wondering if he should be careful when teasing Sagi, just in case. ]

I know what you mean. It's... strange. It's been difficult finding information about the other areas here as well. I've never been somewhere this closed off before.

[scension]

Right? It's not just me? [Once again his confidence buoys up slightly but noticeably when he hears someone else say what he's thinking.] If it was a matter of news travelling slow, that would be one thing - but even in the city, it's the same. Not wrong, just... off.

[partymagician]

Right. For a city like this, you would expect to meet people from all over the region, maybe even from other regions.

[ He shakes his head. ]

I haven't met any, other than the people we brought from Toran. They don't seem especially bothered by the storm off one side of the city either.

[scension]

Yeah, and you'd think that was close enough to home to be a problem. I don't know what to make of it.

[He shrugs. It's a particularly teenage, resigned kind of shrug.]

It's that, and the way all the hi-tech machines they use... smell different. Sound different, too. I think those are the ones that still get me sometimes.

[partymagician]

They smell differently?

[ He tilts his head. Maybe world travel has made it so that's just something he doesn't pay attention to. ]

I'll admit I hadn't noticed that yet... Then again, I'm originally from a world without much technology.

[scension]

I mean, by their standards, me either. I think theirs might just run cleaner than the machina you usually see. It's just another of those things.

[He's about to just pop the sticky, uncovered remainder of his sandwich in his mouth, but stops and looks uncertain. By this point, it's pretty clear that Fai was joking about taking it. ...Right?]

What else is your home like?

[He isn't super invested in the question, but he is mildly curious, and it's unfair if he's the only one getting grilled.]

[partymagician]

[ He nods, thinking back to the world he came here from and how smoothly everything ran there. It's on a similar level here, so he thinks that maybe the technology Sagi is used to must be much older.

Sagi looking at his sandwich has Fai wondering if he should say something but... it's kind of funny. He does feel kind of bad, though, so maybe he will say something. ]

Don't worry, I won't actually take your sandwich.

[ It's a little difficult talking about the place he considers his home, so he smiles a little more, trying to compensate for that. ]

It's very cold! It snows a lot, and avalanches are common. If we were there now, we'd all be wearing thick coats with several layers of clothing underneath.

[scension]

[Sagi feels a little stupid for it within moments, but he really is relieved when Fai assures him there will be no sandwich confiscation today. It's a reaction that probably raises further, 100% justified questions about his military career.

The mention of snow, in contrast, has his eyes light up again. Now that's something he wouldn't have guessed.]

Snow... from the sky, like rain? That's like in fairytales.

[He's never seen the real thing.]

[partymagician]

[ The way Sagi's eyes light up at the mention of it has Fai's smile softening. It's adorable. ]

That's right, just like rain! I'm not familiar with many fairytales, but maybe it is similar. It would often sparkle when the light hit it just right, and it made the whole town look picturesque, like something you would see in a painting.

[scension]

Whoa. I can just imagine.

[What he's imagining is definitely more like an actual painting, or maybe a picture book illustration.]

Yeah, they say someplace like that is where witches live. A whole island of ice and snow. Some coincidence, huh?

[partymagician]

[ He laughs. ]

What a strange coincidence! That has me wondering if someone traveled to my world before arriving in yours and telling fairytales.
