The nightmare is finally over and the aftermath sinks in. Wherever you are, news will eventually spread that the pokemon stopped their rampaging status, looking confused and some horrified by what had happened around them. Mari's Steelixes are finally off their guard duty, people are crying out of various emotions and people who are physically well enough flood out of the shelters in an attempt to search for their loved ones out there, whether they be people or pokemon. Some are reunited, some are not. Either way, people are in this together, comforting others over their losses and rebuilding the city. There's been quite a lot of destruction apart from the Pokemon Center and the hospital, after all. Some buildings are missing a roof, holes on the side wall, doors knocked down... some are unfortunate to have been entirely blasted away by an extremely strong rampaging pokemon's hyper beam (thanks, random Hydreigon).

After most people calm from their initial high emotions, the reconstruction starts. Of course, they also contact the people from Toran who helped with reconstruction efforts. Looks like the handymen will never rest...

The Pokemon Center is looking for additional manpower, getting pokeballs here to there, labeling whose pokemon are whose in things looking like incubators for those in queue of getting healed, and managing supplies. They are extremely short-staffed right now, so they will be looking for any help possible. Though, if you cause too much trouble than helping, you may be politely asked to leave or to help somewhere else. They don't have time for this. During the nights, the Pokemon Center may be crowded. After all, many people just lost their homes. They got nowhere to go.

The hospital is similar, in which they are also short-staffed. They're looking for disaster volunteers, and especially pokemon with healing capabilities to lessen the load on doctors and nurses who need to care for the more gravely wounded. With more help, the hospital will no longer seem as chaotic as before, but more along the lines of an orderly busy time. It helps that the people are no longer stuck inside due to the ongoings of the events outside, so the hospital is emptier than before, compared to when it was jam packed. The mental health department is also using Drowzees and Munnas to give people good dreams and eating nightmares without repercussions so that they can have a good night's rest. Not all wounds are physical, after all.

With the local Mart's help and other establishments, some people band together to supply people with food and drinks in a very open area in the park. Take a breather and eat something. If you look like you're running yourself ragged, one of the townspeople will drag you to eat and drink a proper meal. They don't need another patient in the hospital right now.

Remember that boba shop? Or those restaurants that you had the delicious meat from? Their damages vary from a broken window to being absolutely trashed. Pokemon and people alike are helping with moving the debris and cleaning up the mess. Someone piped up about recycling broken glass to make brand new windows with fire pokemon and proper glass making methods, so please don't throw them away!

The Radio Tower and the cemetery tower? They're both closed off to the public right now with yellow police caution tapes all around them. Your friendly policemen who all look the same advise nearby people to stay away from the two buildings at the moment. Please don't cause trouble or ask them questions... they're tired as it is like everyone else and they're not allowed to say anything for now, if ever. Your energy is better used elsewhere.

[ His eyebrows raise in surprise. It would definitely be preferable if he didn't have to sell it at some point just to get rid of the extra burden. ]

You don't have to.

I don't mind. It wouldn't really affect me in the long run... or at all, I guess. But using it as an excuse to come see me might be fun.

[ He might be teasing, or just telling the truth. Who knows. Either way, the option still stands. ]

It doesn't weigh me down if I put it in my cloak.

I don't need an excuse to come see you, but I suppose I could use it as one anyway.

[ He holds out the staff. ]

If it really won't be a bother, then I'll let you take care of it for me.

[ Which isn't something he would trust most people to do. ]

[ Hien can understand the level of trust Fai is giving to him when he holds out the staff, so he nods, gently taking it and putting it into his cloak. It doesn't look like it affects Hien while he's wearing it. Completely fine.

But there's something he realizes right after because he used his arm too much, even when not in his default form. It starts stinging like crazy. ]

I need to ask you for a favor--do you have any healing magic? Or pokemon that can heal?

[ He's glad Hien seems totally fine just having it in there. That's one less thing Fai needs to worry about.

But that question has him frowning as he shakes his head. ]

I don't. I was never able to get it to stick in my studies. [ So he's a warmage who hates fighting! ] None of my pokemon have any healing moves either.

[ But... ]

I'm good at treating injuries, if that would help.

[ A warmage that hates fighting... Hien feels like he can relate to that very much. His own existence is full of irony at this point, but it's just something he's lived with. It's fine, it's fine. ]

It's about time to change my bandages, so I was hoping you could help speed up the recovery process somehow. Hatenna has a healing skill, so she handled the worst of it and she's working at the hospital fulltime now.

[ Since Hien thinks he got out of the initial red zone, and Hatenna is better off helping others who can't bear the pain as much. ]

I have a first aid kit and rolls of bandages, but that's all I have.

Hmm... I may be able to find something a bit stronger than what comes in a first aid kit. Maybe higher quality bandages too.

[ He has a few favors he can cash in, so. ]

Would you like for me to change them out for you?

If you can, please.

[ There is absolutely no shame in asking someone who could be better at this than he is, so. Here he is, asking Fai for a favor. ]

[ Here's a genuine smile for you, Hien. ]

Alright. Come with me to go get some supplies.

[ He motions back toward town. ]

There should be a place set up nearby to help treat those who are injured and can't get to the hospital. If we ask, I bet they'll give us what we need.

[ Hien was about to follow him, but stops. ]

Sorry, but I'll probably have to stay here. I don't want to go near people when my arm is being treated as a precaution. Besides, not everyone is still used to a strange masked man with a distorted voice with the static that was similar to what everyone heard during the awful event.

[ He just nods. It would be easier to just stay here, then. ]

I'll go get them on my own and come back! Do you promise to be a good puppy and wait here?

[ Hien throws an empty pokeball at Fai's head and goes to sit under one of the trees for shade.

That's probably a yes. ]

[ He just laughs as it bounces off the back of his head.

It's not long before Fai does come back. All he needed to do was ask for extra supplies and they gave it to him, no questions asked about who he was treating. Seems like it pays to be helping out around the city so much, even if he will probably be running himself ragged at some point. Oh well.

He finds Hien under a tree and sits down next to him, dumping the supplies in his own lap. ]

Shall we get started?

--Yeah.

[ Guess who was dozing off under the tree while Fai was gone... anyway, he's awake now. He takes the cloak off, pulls the short sleeve of his shirt upwards and makes sure it stays in place with one of these clips. Hien carefully starts unwrapping the bandages, starting from the palm of his right hand. It's a slow unravelling process, and the wound progressively seems worse the more it's uncovered. It's definitely a third degree burn, a stab wound and a bullet wound mixed in there. Unfortunately, that's just his arm.

His shoulder looks like it was pierced with something. A claw? But the wound looks big. When Hien mentioned that Hatenna treated the worst of it, he definitely wasn't lying. If she didn't, well... Hien might no longer have an arm. It's pretty gross to look at and it doesn't look like it'll fully heal anytime soon. ]

[ Jesus, Hien. Fai draws in a breath looking at it, letting it out slowly.

He scoots closer, picking up the small cloth he brought with him and opening a bottle of water so he can wash off whatever ointment he put on it earlier. ]

I'm assuming I don't need to scold you for getting hurt like this.

[ He's gentle, making sure that he doesn't hurt Hien any more than he already does. ]

It's not like I wanted to get hurt this badly. I hate pain.

[ Which is why he lets out a quiet hiss when the water makes contact with his arm. Despite the previous treatments, it still feels raw. ]

But at least the rest of me is fine.

[ The cemetery tower raid was an extremely hard side quest... ]

[ He eases up just a little, taking his time so that it might hurt less. ]

Try not to get hurt like this again.

[ There's a hint of anger in his voice, and Fai isn't sure if that anger is directed at Hien or himself for not being there to prevent at least some of this from happening. ]

I always make it a personal goal to not get hurt in any fight I get into.

[ He wants to say it's not up to him if he gets hurt regardless, but he does try not to! Evasion is his highest stat for a reason. He quietly breathes out in an attempt to endure whatever more pain the treatment involves. ]

It's a bad time to not have regeneration.

No kidding.

[ He's finally done cleaning, so he gets some of the ointment he was given out and starts putting it on carefully. Hopefully it's stronger than what Hien has been using. ]

It's a good thing I'm here to help you take care of this.

[ His tone is light as he says that, but not nearly the level it usually is. ]

[ That stronger ointment actually hurts... help. It stings and it takes so much willpower not to bat Fai's hand away and flail his arm because it huuuuurts so much. ]

I'm glad you're here too, but sorry you have to see my gross arm like this.

[ He feels like he has to joke around for the sake of keeping the atmosphere light... if it even is light in the first place. ]

I'll get better.

I've seen worse.

[ Which Hien probably knows is true, but Fai just says it like a simple fact rather than trying to bring up his past.

He just keeps applying the ointment, wondering if it hurts. It's too bad he can't see Hien's face to gauge his reaction. ]

Good. [ Fai isn't sure if Hien means in general or the wounds themselves, so he'll cover his bases. ] If I ever see you this hurt again, I'll punch you out for it before I help you.

[ Everyone must have been all sorts of tired on that night. Hien was definitely included in the physical, mental, and emotional aspect of exhaustion that honestly... he considered just stepping into his cloak and not coming out for a week. ]

Like I said... it's not my fault--ow.

[ He grumbles. ]

I don't think I'll want to see you just to get punched. Maybe I should just make the forest my second home and live with the animals.

[ Fai eases up on his touch. ]

If you do that, I'll send my Swablu to watch over you. You'll never sleep again.

[ He's not gonna let you run away, Hien!! ]

I won't actually punch you, but I would definitely think about it.

Please consider not punching me. Just ban it from your mind entirely.

[ Hien quietly sighs. ]

You must be tired too. Considered taking a day off?

[ He totally won't ban it from his mind, so he's not going to say anything to that. ]

I've thought about it, but the townspeople can't really take any days off right now. It isn't fair of me to do so.

[ He's almost done with the ointment. Just a little more... ]
