→ THE BEGINNING

It's on the evening of October 28th when everything quickly descends into madness.It begins with faint static in the air, gradually becoming louder and louder until it's impossible to ignore, the pattern of cries that was once hidden now audible to everybody as it grows and grows until it culminates in an explosion. The walls of the local bookstore burst outwards, a rampaging Hydreigon within unleashing Hyper Beam after Hyper Beam without any rest in between. Its trainer, an old man, hobbles up to it in a panic in order to ask what's wrong, but the Pokemon knocks him to the ground, ignoring him and continuing to destroy everything in its path while its trainer lies motionless on the ground, blood pouring from his head.
Further down the street, another eruption shakes the city, a group of Galarian Rapidashes slamming themselves against walls and windows until they break through, careening and crashing through buildings with wild abandon. Occupants inside a cafe scream as they attempt to flee, crushed under rubble and trampled by merciless hooves. From the sky, Murkrows and Natus swoop down on residents on the streets, long talons outstretched to claw at any exposed skin and pluck out any staring eyes. All around the city, Pokeballs burst open on their own and the Pokemon rush madly at human and Pokemon alike, disregarding orders or pleads from their trainers and attacking anything within sight in a wild frenzy.
Fires blaze across the city as children wail and adults scream. All the while, the pattern of cries continues...
→ THE RAMPAGE

Throughout the night, dark, ghost, and psychic-type Pokemon rampage throughout Mango City. Wild Pokemon appear from the outskirts of town and attack anyone and anything on sight, while companion Pokemon force themselves out of their balls and turn upon their trainers. No other types seem to be affected, the other Pokemon just as confused and distraught as the humans as they're forced to run from, defend against, and fight the Pokemon they were once allied with.While many of the mad Pokemon physically assault those around them, other use innate abilities to wreak havoc. Musharnas emit a dark mist that engulfs entire beings and brings their fears to reality, forcing all those within the fog to face the same delusions. At the same time, Shedinjas steal souls away in their shells and keep them captive in a shared endless nightmare of their worst experiences relived. Similarly, Beheeyems cause those nearby to reexperience their most feared and hated moments, erasing all memory after that moment in order to trap their victims in that vulnerable mindset of the past. Meanwhile, Zoroarks trap their targets within grand illusions that force them to undergo a series of deaths over and over again, causing them excruciating pain and suffering while their physical bodies continue to live. Haunters phase in and out of walls to surprise and lick their victims, sapping years off their life and causing a frigid shivering that won't stop until they wither away, and Gengars loom in the shadows, sapping heat away from its surroundings and causing the small and the weak to slowly freeze to death. Umbreons spray poisonous sweat all over the street, causing people to choke and convulse if they stay too long near the toxic areas, and Cofagriguses drag humans into their coffins and wrap them up as mummies, bound so tightly nobody can hear them scream. No amount of pleading nor bargaining will cause any of them to stop; the only option left is to defeat them in battle, either by killing them or knocking them out.
It'd be kinder to do the latter, but in the heat of the moment, it's difficult to hold back. It's desperate times, after all, as the city streets soon begin to fill with the cold and still bodies of both Pokemon and humans.

At the outskirts of town bordering the forest, herds of Stantler lead the unaffected and helpless deeper into the forest into an area where the trees are so densely packed that even the shine of the moon can't break through. The only source of light are the small Litwicks that scurry towards the humans, smiling and holding out their little hands. Follow them. They'll keep you safe(?).Perhaps it's time to abandon the city, where the fires continue to grow and rage throughout the streets, threatening to engulf entire neighborhood blocks. The hospital and Pokemon Center get repurposed to disaster zones as the doctors and nurses struggle to treat their patients while fending off rampaging Pokemon at the same time. Mari's large Steelixes wrap themselves around the buildings to become iron walls keeping the wild Pokemon out, but even their great defense struggles against the never ending attacks.
In the midst of the ongoing disaster, the radio tower remains undamaged and completely abandoned, untouched by the rampaging Pokemon outside. The receptionist has fled long ago, leaving the front doors open but the door to the stairs and the elevator up remaining locked. The tower stands empty and silent, completely free of the static and pattern of cries playing outside, the one place of reprieve from the hell that has descended upon Mango City.

[ It's been almost two weeks since Theo left on his mysterious journey and Efi had done so much during that time: she trained her pokemon, she won a gym battle, she talked to nice npc people, tried to do jobs in hopes of making some money... all to become strong--not just physically, but mentally too.
It doesn't exactly prepare her for the sudden onslaught of rogue pokemon and the fact that her Deino has now suddenly turned on her. At first, it wasn't a big deal, since he always liked nibbling on everything, but now he's biting her and it actually hurts. ]
Stop that, Dia! It hurts!
[ Deino growls and tries to take another bite out of Efi's arm. Her Vivillon appears and immediately puts Deino to sleep with Sleep Powder. Even though pompous and never getting along with the others, even he crosses the line at attacking its own trainer and tosses the pokeball at Deino, returning him into the ball.
Efi has an idea. ]
Make the bad pokemon go to sleep, Vivi!
[ So if you're having a rogue pokemon torment you and would like an end to it, here's a Vivillon putting that rogue pokemon to sleep. Efi immediately runs over to you and assumes that you're sleeping (yes even if your eyes are wide open). ]

[ The thing about having lived for so long with a lot of life experiences in various environments is that you gradually become used to it. Even this havoc-like event right now is nothing new. He's lived and died through many things, so his mental strength is quite high. His mind has been through a wringer like a dirty piece of cloth, but it's fine. It's fine.
It would have been the same for his physical endurance, but not all of his powers had returned. This is what the rouge pokemon start taking advantage of--particularly Zoroarks and Haunters. He feels his body gradually turn cold as he feels exhausted from the illusions of dying over and over. Not to mention the people who are also undergoing trauma and illusions sometimes popping up to attack Hien themselves, because he looks suspicious. He's always appeared to be suspicious, but he knocks them out with some difficulty and gets them to the hospital with what strength he still has. It's like living on red HP.
He takes a quick break in the pokemon center entrance, hugging his Flareon for warmth. He can be seen in one of the waiting room chairs burying his masked face into Flareon's fluff. Should anyone approach, Flareon growls a little as a warning, regardless if you're a friend or someone Flareon had played with before. His trainer is vulnerable and it's up to him to protect him. Though if you show that you come in peace instead of trying to bribe it with food, the Flareon is rather easy to persuade. ]
II - who's up for a duo raid
[ After that short break time, Hien manages to recover enough to go to the cemetery tower. He's been here with Joonghyuk before and he found something interesting. However, it's teeming with so much ghost pokemon who have gone nuts, so reaching the top floor may be... difficult. Hien has several usable pokemon and all his other ones are currently in his hammerspace cloak so that they don't act out and hurt someone. ]
The top floor has something weird. My Litwick was extremely scared of it when we visited several weeks ago.
[ That's a rather tall order, considering it's a tower full of graves, home to a seemingly infinite number of pokemon. ]
If you have a plan, let's hear it. If not, we're just going to bum rush through it.

He's down three of his Pokemon. It happened fast. He'd be down a lot more than that if the little ice bug he met only a short while ago hadn't burst out of her ball to breathe snow at the Sigilyph descending on him, impeding its movements enough for Marshtomp to take it out despite lacking the elemental advantage he had against the other two. Was that overkill, or will they recover? Sagi doesn't want to stick around to make sure. With this harsh static noise buzzing in his ears, forever repeating, there's exactly one place he can think of to go.]
[i: Pokemon Centre]
[The place he's thinking of isn't the Pokemon Centre, but that's a visible enough landmark to be a decent shot at finding a friendly face, and it isn't on fire yet. The sight of the gym leader's Steelixes guarding the building is welcome - everyone's still hanging in there for now.
He slips in amid the chaos, wings still out, and settles in a corner as far from the harried doctors and nurses as he can get. As urgent as the situation is, his bruised Pokemon need a moment to breathe, and he needs a moment to - well, it happens a little fast for an onlooker to follow. First, he pulls a playing card out of his pocket. Next, with a brief, strange and above all fairly loud whistling noise, he pulls a full-size shoulder bag out of the card. After he retrieves a set of dark red padded leg armour from the bag, it disappears again with the same high-pitched noise, and he pockets the card again. Finally, he busies himself fastening the armour around his shins.
If you don't catch him then, you might notice him when he heads out again, Snom on his shoulder and Marshtomp waddling behind. He'll go so far as to raise his voice for anyone who cares to recognise it:] I'm going back to the radio tower.
[Maybe they'll come with him. Maybe they'll just remember it when he doesn't come back. On a burning battlefield, only the present moment exists; it's all the same to him.]
[ii: Musharna A // gore]
[Where were you in the city when the fog set in? It's difficult to figure out once it shrouds the area, leaving only a small patch of sidewalk clearly visible. No buildings, no landmarks - only a girl face down at your feet, bleeding out in a spreading viscous puddle. Her short brown hair is matted, her diaphanous white butterfly wings fading fast, her shredded dress stained dark red. Dead. On top of the claw wounds along the whole length of her dainty body, her arm has been ripped off completely just below the shoulder, exposing flesh and cracked, oozing bone.
No sooner does the body appear than Sagi runs up in an obvious panic. His footsteps on the hard pavement turn into unpleasantly organic squelching noises on his approach. There's a lot of blood. Some smears and scattered chunks around it point to a struggle, making the corpse's sudden appearance even more mysterious.]
No, no, no -
[But before he can reach her, before the mangled mockery of a body he's looking at can fully sink in - he stops. Freezes, practically, to match the strange, icy light in his eyes.]
...
...It's fake.
[He does not explain how he knows. His voice is shaking, but when he abruptly steps past the corpse and tugs you by the arm or shoulder to follow, his hand is steady. In fact, he might grip a little too hard before letting go.]
It must be something about this mist. [The blood splashes and spatters underfoot as he starts to walk away. It smells metallic.] Come on. Let's just get out of here.
[iii: Musharna B // possibility of body horror]
[The next time Sagi encounters the fog, he barely gives it a second glance. It's just illusion magic. A powerful, unsettling distraction that means nothing.
And look, there's even a rounded animal-like shape levitating in the air right in front of him, the dark fog spewing out of what seems to be its head. A Pokemon, of course; that's how magic manifests around here. If it doesn't have the good sense to hide, he's taking it out. He already doesn't have the time for this.
He's almost in high spirits as he turns and beckons Marshtomp closer. Adrenaline is a funny thing.] We're breaking through. Stay alert. These things don't know what they're...
[His voice dies in his throat when he looks down. Around the hand that he just gestured with, the black mist is... gathering? No. Seeping out, through his skin. Out of his arms, out of his chest. Little tendrils and puffs of mist, everywhere.
He stares at it, rooted to the spot. This can't be what it looks like. He's in control. His head feels fine.
Then the dizziness hits him. He reels, clutching his head, letting the dagger in his hand clatter to the ground. Somewhere close, somewhere right in front of him but out of sight, someone is crying out in pain. He doesn't know or care that he might not be the only one hearing those dying screams this time.]
Ngh... gaaah! [Gritting his teeth doesn't help him shut the screaming out, nor the crawling sensation running up and down his limbs. It's wrong. This is wrong. This isn't how things work any more... is it?] Why...?
[There's no answer from the black mist, which is beginning to obscure him from view entirely. It only swirls and deepens.
Someone else had better deal with that Musharna in plain sight over there, huh?]
[iv: radio tower]
[Somehow, he made it. Did he make it in one piece? For Sagi, that's hard to define. But he did make it here on his own two feet, and nothing has mauled him to death yet.
Whether you arrived here earlier or followed him inside, Sagi doesn't even appear to notice. He half marches, half lurches straight across the lobby, stopping only when he's in front of the elevator. Unfortunately for him, pressing the buttons on the panel does nothing; the elevator is locked. Neither does mashing them with the palm of his hand.]
Damn, there's no response. [That leaves only one option in Sagi's mind for the time being. He turns back, still a little unsteady, and motions to his scratched-up Marshtomp, who is slowly padding across the lobby after him on awkward webbed feet.] Here. Break down this door.
[Marshtomp looks a little worried about this, but if Sagi says it's okay, he'll follow the order. He toddles over in front of Sagi, takes a deep breath, then rams into the elevator doors with all his fishy might.
The elevator doors clank and groan like something heavy was knocked loose inside them, but don't show any sign of yielding yet. They seem to be built to last. Maybe someone less single-minded than Sagi is right now could think of a better plan...]

a. successful heroic attempt?
[It's getting louder. The squiggly noise in the static that has been driving Atsushi crazy since they got here. He bought earplugs from the PokeMart, and though they don't entirely work, they've been enough to help ignore it. But today, it's worse. All evening, rising in volume until it's piercing his eardrums and he can't stand it anymore. He's going to scream, but before he can, there's the sound of breaking glass and a cacophony of enraged Pokemon screeching and attacking everyone in the street and the buildings nearby. Like a switch had been flipped. The squiggly noise continues above all else, but gets brushed aside because there's an old lady with a cane trying to fend off a Murkrow. Atsushi pounces on it, snatching it out of the air, claws ready to subdue the thing is possible. It's saving one old lady, but it's a start.]
b. why...
[Atsushi has yet to figure out why only some Pokemon are running out of control. Types were very important things to know, but he hadn't compiled enough information to recognize which type everything was. There are too many to memorize. So, it's a total surprise that it's not the murderous Spearow that attacks him upon release this time, it's the Drifloons. The friendly duo of balloons that always want to play games. Not today. Today, they want blood. Expanding and shrinking menacingly and waving their little string arms around. It's really creepy.
Then they strike, one wrapping its spindly arms around his wrists so tightly, its drawing blood. The other expands almost to breaking once more, floating closer until its blank eyes are inches away from Atsushi's. The Drifloons are surprisingly strong, and he hasn't regained his own strength back yet; he can't pull away and get his hands to his neck to stop the second Drifloon from attempting to strangle him.]
II. ZOROARK ILLUSIONS / cw: death, gore, eye stuff
[Everything is chaotic, and the one constant is the noise. It has to be shut off somehow, or if coming from a Pokemon, it needs to be vanquished to stop the bloodshed. Atsushi thinks he's headed towards the tower, but the buildings and the street seem to warp suddenly, and then they're devoid of life. It's quiet. How is that possible? A heavy breathing then sounds from the alley to the right as some kind of fox-wolf Pokemon slowly approaches. It's gone again a second later, fading into nothingness as noise returns. Flapping of wings. The hair on the back of his neck stands up; he doesn't want to look, but it's impossible not to turn towards the sound.
A giant flock of Spearows descend from the sky and Atsushi runs. He doesn't get far, the murderbirds divebombing and knocking him to the ground. Their claws dig deep, and they peck viciously, tearing at flesh and hair and his eyes. He screams and flails, trying to get them off as two of them devour the soft squishy eyeballs. He can't see them anymore, which somehow makes it worse. Their beaks break through flesh and muscle and snap off nerve endings. There's a rush of warm liquid all over as his entrails are torn out. The noise of the birds are drowned out by his own screams. When the pain starts to fade and he's certain he's dying or already dead, his vision returns. But it's not regeneration of his eyeballs.
He's back on the empty street, completely intact, with no Spearows in sight. Just the fox thing tilting its head before the scenery morphs into the Combee farm from Toran and there's ominous buzzing.]
III. RADIO TOWER / closed to Nanami
[After the Zoroark derailment, Atsushi is one again focused on stopping the squiggly noise and ending the madness. The best place to start is the radio tower and he heads there with purpose. Instead of the noise getting louder in the vicinity this time, it's fading. The chaos has left the tower alone as well. None of this makes sense. At least it looks like Nanami's there to... help?]

Mango City
[Toki runs down the street, holding Hana-chan close as she clings to him and flings berries at incoming Natus. Stay away, evil birds! Their matching overalls are covered in dust and debris from being near the bookshop when chaos struck. It's Toki's instinct in these situations to scream and run, and he hasn't stopped since. Rounding a corner, his scream rises to a crescendo. It's a robot. A weird mushroomy robot with button fingers and blazing green eyes. He was right. He was right this whole time. They're in a video game and it's plagued with a robot virus! He's not crazy! Hana-chan screams too, upon seeing the Beheeyem. There's a flash of green light, and then she is alone on the street, her handful of throwing berries on the ground beside her. Where did Toki go? She can't remember. She looks around worriedly and gathers her berries, shoving them into her mouth. Where is he?]

[The trees in each direction look the same, so now Toki listens. A couple of birds, owls most likely, Niko's heavy breathing, his own panicked heartbeat in his ears... and voices? Faint, soft, but somewhere. Maybe they're still close enough for someone else to hear them.]
Hello~! We're lost~!
[At that moment, the voices disappear. There's no more shouting in the far off distance for their missing classmate. Everything shimmers, and Toki wonders if the lion-monkeys have magic powers and this is how they get people trapped in the forest. Then the forest disappears entirely, and he and Niko are in some sort of small park, surrounded by buildings in a city far larger than their small town of Akamori. And it's chaos. There are strange animals running around, people screaming, everything smells like smoke and there's sounds of breaking glass and possibly explosions in the distance. A prominent hum of static. None of this can be good for Niko's heart, but Toki doesn't know what to do.
He hovers over her, clutching his flashlight tightly like it's a lifeline.]

He manages to dodge, the Pokémon cutting a deep gouge into his inn room's bed instead; later, when there is time to rest, he will thank the Fury that he's always been such a light sleeper. Now well and truly awake, he throws anything he can find at the creature, his mind racing with questions as he avoids yet another slash. Can this truly be his Honedge, the meek little Pokémon who always hides at the slightest hint of a fight, its steel body somehow shivering with fright? The one who shyly accepts berries from his hand, its big eye filled with gratitude? No, something is wrong here, and horribly so.
Then Joss hears a song and... the sword falls to the ground, fast asleep. He stares at the little Swablu beeping angrily from a bedpost, her feathers puffed up enough to make her look twice her size. He didn't know she could do that, but this gives him time to summon the rampaging Pokémon back into its ball - he circles it with a piece of string, as an extra safety measure - and put his armor on.
When he gets out, the sight immediately reminds him of Amaurot. It is on a smaller scale, objectively, but he can't bring himself to think of it that way when he sees the fires, the rubble, the streets strewn with bodies. He bends down in front of each and every one of them to check for a pulse, a breath, anything, but it's too late.
In the distance, he can hear a cry of distress. He rushes towards it, Swablu in tow.]
I. Kindred Sword (closed to Nanami)
[Unfortunately, the string snaps the moment Honedge awakes from its slumber.
When Swablu tries to put it to sleep again, all she earns for her trouble is a tackle to the face. As she falls to the ground, Joss only sees one solution: he grabs the sword by its handle, channeling all of his strength into keeping it as far as possible from Swablu and himself.
It's only when Honedge slides its sash along his arm that Joss realizes he's made a grave mistake. To his credit, he doesn't look like he's struggling too much as the sword drains his energy away... but there's no way he can last very long. Not when all his small, injured Swablu can do is send out weak cries of alarm, hoping someone, anyone will hear.]
II. Good Samaritan
[When he's recovered from that adventure somewhat, Joss once again sets out to help people get to safety. He remains wary of going into the woods, however, occasionally side-eyeing the Litwicks that come close enough for him to see and saying something about being led astray to anyone who notices and asks. He doesn't particularly trust them, not after they got him lost in the forest for a couple of days... but he realizes people don't have much of a choice, right now, and there is strength in numbers besides. A large group of people is sure to find its way back more easily than a single man, should it come to that.
Most of his efforts consist of getting people out of half-destroyed buildings; clearing away rubble when he can, making use of his powerful jumps to get people down from higher floors when he can't. If you're doing the same, or need non-supernatural assistance yourself, it's not very hard to find him.]
III. Of the Holy Body (//death, blood)
[He accidentally gazes into the abyss of a Shedinja's back, and the abyss gazes back.
One moment, he is running through the middle of a smoky street, the incessant static buzzing through every bone in his body and making his teeth ache; the next, his steps are the only thing echoing against the marble floors of his homeland's most hallowed halls, the reverberating sound only dying down when Joss comes to a halt.
The Vault. He takes a step back, only for his boot to make a squelching noise. There is suddenly blood at his feet, oozing from the broken and battered bodies of soldiers and clergymen that weren't there when he'd slowed his mad run. Coward, they almost seem to say with their cold, blue lips. Traitor. Heretic. He pays them no heed. The words they are echoing can no longer hurt him.
He banishes the thought with a shake of his head and starts moving forward, as if compelled by a higher power. Further in he finds the same scenes, again and again, of men and women he once put to the sword. Despite this, he keeps making his way through the building. He knows the path well; he has seen it in his nightmares for years now. Same with the whisper in his mind, incessant, ever growing louder: woe betide the man who stands against the Weapon of Light, for death is his reward. Woe betide the man who stands against the Weapon of Light, for death is his reward. Woe betide-

Too late. Always too late. He watches as the glowing spear shatters the stout Fortemps steel and pierces the chest of the most wonderful man he's ever met. Haurchefant's body slumps to the ground, and when Joss approaches and grabs his hand, he can see his own fingers sparkle with the same blue aether crackling around the gaping wound.
He doesn't confess. He never does. For once, he doesn't even smile, the usual motions replaced with a more bitter kind of feeling. Anger doesn't easily come to him, but he can feel its dark waves roil over him now. Reliving this in his nightmares is one thing, but this... this is designed to hurt him, and he refuses to give whatever is causing this the satisfaction of breaking him.
Joss may have an increasingly bad time as he goes through those scenes again and again, but the Shedinja is in for one hell of an indigestion.]

But terrified as she is, she runs on, barely dodging the feet of stampeding people who just don't seem to notice her chirps to attract their attention, barely dodging the swipes of wild Natus. She runs on and on... until, finally, a familiar figure looms.
She doesn't know Joss all that well, but he's talked to her trainer! She's pretty sure they're friends! He's tall like Hythlo, and kind, and can save her from the ground too! His Swablu has tried to peck her a few times, but Pasithea is much too scared to be scared of that now.
So as Joss is making his way through the chaos of the city, a small yellow ball suddenly dashes out of an alley, rapidly climbs up his gaunt frame before he can even react properly, runs onto his arm and bites at the cloth, making desperate beeping noises before looking up at him - she seems to be trying to attract his attention, not do any damage. If he sees anyone he knows (and anyone he doesn't) about to get hurt or attacked by a Pokemon—or even another person—there's a glowing light on their vulnerable side as a shield ten feet in diameter appears, glowing runes all along the border. The barrier is able to absorb any attacks sent that way, and stays up until Fai deems it safe enough to dissolve.

[ If you're (un)lucky enough to have your soul stolen and held captive in Fai's nightmare, the first thing you'll notice is that you're in a tower. The tower feels impossibly high and insurmountable, but there's an opening at the top. There are also piles and piles of bodies surrounding you, but none of them have decayed and are instead frozen in time. It's a mass grave with people lying everywhere, and somewhere amongst them is Fai.
He's reading a letter that a man nearby was holding onto when he fell in. ]

[ Kim Dokja considers himself lucky that he hasn't had his mind intruded upon with nightmares and fears. Not that it would be anything new with him. Instead, he's had the misfortune of being caught in a blast as the Hydreigon goes on a rampage with Hyper Beam shooting about.
He's barely managed to find cover, collapsing against the nearest wall with his Eevee bundled in his arms. Siwoo seems unconscious, fur covered with soot and a bit of fables but that's more from Dokja's appearance. He's got various cuts all over, signs of burns from the way parts of his clothes is burnt and torn. He's so tired, adrenaline pumping and keeping him going but his head is still ringing from the beam's explosion. Something keeps dripping onto one eye from a cut above it, bracing himself as another explosion happens a building next over. ]
Think that was a bit out of our league, Siwoo.
[ A soft sound in his arm responds, Dokja holding back a hiss as he tries to comfort the fox Pokemon. The reader should be use to such pain- the amount of dying he's gone through, injuries he's sustained through many battles. Yet, he feels as though he's ready to just collapse over if he so much as move from this spot. Just.. a few minutes. He's gonna take a few minutes to rest before trying to find a way out of this mess. ]

However, the sound of an explosion jolts her out of doing so, and from what she remembers, Dokja went outside. She has no idea where Joonghyuk is, but surely, he can take care of himself despite being nerfed. She mutters an emphatic curse under her breath and bolts the hell out of the hotel she's staying in, but she starts having trouble with the Gastly she has, popping out of the pokeball of its own volition and trying to actually terrorize Sooyoung and possibly hurt her in the process, but she doesn't have time for this, so she sends her Cramorant out to deal with it swiftly. She'll keep this behavior in mind.

[It's all too familiar, Hythlo thinks as he's crouching in an alley behind a pile of debris, blood seeping through his makeshift bandages. He's had to tear apart some of his clothes to dress the wounds, but fashion is the last problem on his mind right now.
He remembers... He remembers the dodging and weaving, scrambling in panic between slabs of buildings, magicks twisting and fading at his fingertips as he tried to shield himself or fight back. He remembers the screams and cries around him, much like what is happening now. He remembers... a child cowering...
Bile rises in his throat, and so does a low, almost deranged laughter. Perhaps none of this was real, only a trick of his dying imagination. Perhaps he's still in Amaurot. Or perhaps... Perhaps he brought it here with him.
The thought looms in his mind, takes root, spreads like the ferns of frost on a window, blocks out everything else. Maybe it's his fault. Maybe it's his fault people and children are dying in the street and the laws of this world are undone. He should have died in his time.
He stands up, shakily, his mind muddled, almost paralyzed. Stares at his hand on the wall, then slowly turns towards the alley exit. The red haze of flames is visible there.
He makes his way out, slowly, oblivious to the cries of Pasithea on his shoulder--his Joltik is the only Pokemon he has left with him, and he does not want to think what might have happened with the others. And even as he walks, the street around him changes, the buildings growing taller, the sky redder, the noise louder. Yes... it's familiar.
As he finally staggers outside, he slowly raises his eyes, knowing what he will see, yet dreading it none the less. But he must. There's no cheating fate a second time.
Of all the horrors that befell Amaurot it was the First Beast that burned itself in Hythlo's memory, the undeterred march of its hideous form through the streets, the mocking grin of its many mouths never fading, even as the beast twisted around to take a dead body in its maws... and spit it out once it realized the body was a corpse. It needed nothing to feed on but their fear, its mutilation of the dead somehow almost worse than death itself. Like a child playing with its food.
He stands in the middle of the street as though hypnotized, watching the worm-like creature slither through the streets... waiting for it to notice him. There is a strange serenity in the wait, as the mind prepares for a long-overdue death, like stagehands lovingly putting away the props, cleaning the stage, drawing the curtains. Finale.
From above, a strange creature in some manner of a coat is watching him.

II. Thus did the second doom break us. (cw: suicidal ideation again. like, a lot of it. some parasite imagery, body dysmorphia/dysphoria of sorts?)
[Having escaped death again, Hythlo still has no idea what he's doing. He tries to help whoever he can find in the streets, carrying people and Pokemon to the Center--it's the one landmark of safety of sorts, a small spot of sanity in an insane world--but ultimately, he knows this won't actually solve anything. All he's doing is putting off their deaths.
What beats on his mind are the brief distortions in the flow of the lifeforce around him - they are both a blessing and a curse, because he remembers the sheer chaos that the Lifestream became in the Final Days, but here... they are more like tiny parasites swimming in the blood of the host, hidden within the sheer roar of the living organism, but feeding off it nonetheless.
He strains his sight whenever the strange lines appear, trying to figure out where they are coming from. They dance before his vision like tiny ghost lights, here one second and gone the next. Perhaps if he can find the source...
A thing easier said than done, because when he finally gathers the courage to step out of the Center, takes one last shaky breath of the air outside, ready to try and follow the patterns, living on adrenaline, he glances down at himself to make sure he's taken care of most of his wounds...
And freezes. Horrifying confusion pours into his overheated mind. A... body? He's alive? He can feel the beating of his heart despite knowing, knowing that it stopped long ago, by the heavens, he shouldn't be here, he's--
Panic grips him as his breath catches and he raises his hands to his throat, not knowing what he wants to do with it, claw it open to give himself some air he doesn't need anymore. His nails dig into his skin but some kind of bone-deep, basic instinct of self-preservation makes his hands twitch away, sink the nails into the flesh of the other arm. The blood, he can feel the blood flowing through his veins, and that's wrong, that's wrong, his mind screams, get it out get it out get it out, just stop this, fix it, stop it, go back--
He sways, hits the wall with his shoulder, the fingers of his right hand still scrabbling at his other wrist, hoping to tear the skin, slice the veins, let it all out so the disgustingly warm flesh can finally cool, so he can go back to sleep, he deserves it, the rest, he just wants to rest...
Hythlo sinks to his knees, weeping, the last vestiges of his mind ineffectually trying to wrest control from his screaming subconscious, his whole body shuddering and twitching with the conflicting impulses - a pathetic, almost painful sight to those who know him.]
III. Thus did the third doom undo us.
[This night has been a nightmare, and it feels like its few brief hours have dragged on for several eons already, no end in sight.
Somehow, he manages to make his way to the towers, and it seems like he isn't the only one with that idea. He's heard scraps of conversation, enough to understand that something is connected to the radio tower--the source of the noise and the strange distortions in the flow. He looks up at the looming towers - naught but a child's playthings, compared to the spires of Amaurot - but...
His gaze is drawn downwards, and he actually lowers himself to one knee to touch the ground. Something terrible must have happened here... He remembers the death of his own world, and it was the core that they had to repair, to pile so many lives upon the altar... And perhaps it's just his mind clinging to the similarities with the dying Amaurot, but some part of him is immovably certain that the core is somewhere else. He has no idea where, though...
But lamenting it will avail him naught. He shakes his head, hesitates, and turns towards the cemetery tower.]
... I'm sorry, Pasithea. Please run when you can.
[He sounds sad, petting the tiny spider. He has no regrets, no worries whatsoever about his own life - after all, he's already dead, he's had to reexperience that so many times today - but his little companion deserves to live, and live without fear. He does have a ball for her to hide into if things go bad, but he fears it may not be enough. Still, without her he won't even make it past the doors, and if he's lucky he might actually find something before death claims him for real.
He straightens up and steps out in the direction of the cemetery tower. Yes, this idiot is going to try and enter a place full of rampaging ghosts all on his own.]

I. RELIEF
[It's not until hours after the Pokemon stop rampaging and the screaming noise is gone that everything finally hits Toki. It's over. They're safe; he and Niko and Hana-chan made it out alive. He's sitting on a bench near the damaged bakery with Hana-chan, who has a fresh bag of creme rolls. Toki himself has jelly filled donuts decorated like Pokeballs. The one in his hand gets squeezed so tightly the jelly falls out in sticky globs, plopping down onto his pants... along with his tears. Because he finds himself crying, slowly at first, and then turning into keening wails. They're okay. Everything's going to be fine. Hana-chan looks up at him, creme roll half-way to her mouth, but she doesn't know how to deal with this, so she just continues to eat after a few more wails.]
II. EXHAUSTION
[Toki's trying so hard to continue his efforts at the hospital, making sure everyone has blankets and water and a sufficient number of Pokemon plushies to hug, but today... it's daunting. He drags his feet towards the little boy's bed, whining with every step. The kid looks at him warily, raising his eyebrow and holding his Bulbasaur plush like a shield.]

[He takes two more before collapsing to the floor at the foot of the hospital bed. The boy shrieks, startled by the loud thud, but Toki has no reaction to him in turn. He merely worms his way forward, inching along on his stomach because it's too much of an effort even to crawl.]

Hey you! Yeah you, fucking piece of shit! I'll kill you! How dare you give my beautiful daughter fucking ORAN BERRY when she ordered FIGY! FIGY!
[Toki slams his hand down on the counter in front of a shocked clerk, who takes a few steps back. It was a minor mistake! It's his first day! Toki doesn't care. His skin is all itchy and boiling with the internal fire of a thousand suns. He has never been so pissed off before. This is an affront to all that is good in the world.]
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF IT'S YOUR FIRST DAY, MORON! GET YOUR FUCKING! BERRIES! RIGHT!
[He seethes, almost foaming at the mouth, leaning over the counter and grabbing the front of the clerk's shirt. Hana-chan bares her teeth and throws her cup of oran berry boba to the floor in a mimicry of vicious anger. She didn't want those berries!... But she does, and she proceeds to sit on the floor and pick the boba balls out of the mess to eat them, while Toki continues to harass the clerk and someone leaves the boba shop threatening to find the police.]

What's worse, it's coming from Toki, and at this point Hythlo remembers enough to recognize him as the boy who 1) went to the police station to pay a preemptive public indecency fine with him; 2) got poisoned by berries and poisoned Hythlo himself as well; 3) has a soul that looks like a concussed jellyfish. Hythlo just stares with his donut halfway to his mouth, then puts it down with an expression of grim determination. Toki might be his friend, but this calls for action.
The action, in this case, is striding up behind Toki and lifting him up by the armpits like a misbehaving cat, away from the register so his expected thrashing won't cause physical damage in addition to emotional.]

aka. Mango City Is Too Far From the Shore
[His head hurts and he can't remember what happened; he feels like he's floating, which he is, and lying on a spiky lobster. This is a dream. Seconds after Yoichi opens his eyes to the searing sunlight overhead, he's underwater. The Corphish grabs hold of his collar, making some strange lobster noise of apology. Yoichi chokes a little and swallows some water, now fully awake and apparently in the ocean where the choppy waves beat against him and the Corphish, and whirlpools form and swirl all over the place. It's not the time to try and think about what happened and how he got here, but to make it to the distant shore the helpful Corphish points out.
It takes them over thirty minutes to get there, after a couple whirlpool mishaps and strong undercurrents. At the shore, there's nothing but forest, the cityscape seen from the ocean now lost to the mass of trees. There are signs of boats, sliding tracks like they'd been dragged ashore and then pushed back into the ocean; dropping off or collecting passengers. The Corphish apparently knows where they're supposed to go, skittering along the sand and right into the berry bushes at the edge of the forest. They don't come out for five days, subsisting off berries, mushrooms, leaves, and tree bark. The Corphish snaps its claws at Yoichi's fingers when he first tries to eat the berries; either the lobster really likes them and wants to hoard them all, or they're poisonous. Yoichi assumes the latter, and eats mushrooms instead; a bad idea. They make him sick and he spends an hour thinking he's going to die, and glaring at the Corphish as he seems to shrug in apology as he watches Yoichi vomit repeatedly. Mid-afternoon on day three, Yoichi screams into the never-ending forest in frustration, scaring a flock of Murkrows. They descend in retaliation, going for the tasty Corphish, who fends them off using a stick like a fencing sword. This is definitely a dream. Murkrows vanquished, Yoichi and the Corphish continue their trek.
Finally reaching the other side of the forest is like miracle, giving Yoichi renewed determination to get somewhere close to civilization, and there it is. The city. On fire. What the fuck? There wasn't any smoke he could see from the ocean; what happened in five days? He finds out immediately upon entering the Mango City limits; it's populated by hundreds of different Pokemon, and some are running amok. It's chaos.

This is the most fucked up dream Yoichi has ever had, and that's what it has to be: a dream. He runs down the street past buildings on fire and people and Pokemon screaming and panicking. He can't stop because then he'll be gored by... unicorns. Unicorns. With pink and blue manes and tails and it would be utterly laughable if he hadn't witnessed one of those gore-ings with his own eyes. That poor woman, pinned to the side of a craft shop with that deadly horn, the Galarian Rapidash glowering as it viciously skewered her. Holy shit. That's when he'd started running three blocks ago, and he's never stopped.
Yoichi careens around another corner, dodging an angrily hopping Spoink who comes out of nowhere and proceeds to crash into a shop window. He lost ground there, and the Rapidash is catching up, plowing right through the debris of an overturned cart selling "I 🎔 Mango City!!" merchandise. The t-shirts and hats are covered in dust and blood and other unknown substances, ground into the asphalt by the unrelenting hooves. Up ahead there's a chance for escape; a pile of cinder blocks against a wall, a dumpster against the adjoining brick building, and above that a horizontal PVC pipe on rickety bracing - possibly feeding into some sort of heating exhaust system - and electrical wires bunched underneath a windowsill and following up the side all the way to the roof.
It's harder to think clearly while running when it's a matter of life and death, even if he knows it's a dream, but if he could time it just right and jump high enough off the dumpster, he could reach the pipe before the Rapidash can close in. If the pipe doesn't hold his weight, he'll be trampled once he falls back down. The best thing to do is to put as little pressure on the pipe as possible and use it simply as a half a second handhold to grab the wires. That's what he goes with, jumping from the cinder blocks to the dumpster, one moment of contact with the pipe, and holding tight to the wires against the building. It's not even seconds before the unicorn smashes through the dumpster and into the bricks of the building, snorting menacingly as its prey escapes.
Something wet plops down on Yoichi's arm and he looks at the substance curiously. It kind of looks like bird shit, but... Oh, it is. That's... bad. Up on the roof is a line of Natus glaring down. More are circling in the sky, and he can almost hear "Flight of the Valkyries" over the shitty video game background music of repetitive static and screechy mechanical noises. The one dream Pokemon starter he's been allotted is not going to do shit in this situation...
...and then the flock turns away, scattering, as the background music abruptly diminishes to barely audible static. The Natus on the roof look at each other, make confused squawking noises, and fly off in different directions. Down below, the Rapidash whinnies and shakes its head; the murderous intent in its eyes fading to bewilderment. It gallops off down the street at an unhurried clip. Yoichi is just as confused as the Pokemon, and he waits couple minutes before climbing down from the wires. The area is now devoid of life, only debris left. He heads back to the main thoroughfare, the Corphish safely resting in its ball. The chaos has ended, both Pokemon and Mango citizens standing around in the unexpectedly still atmosphere.]

II. Boba Shop Restoration . [10/30]
[He still can't decide if this is a dream or not, but it seems to go on forever, and with each passing minute there's another tiny part of him that accepts this is reality. The voice was real, and the wish he made was really some kind of pact, and his wish was sort of ridiculous in hindsight if it could really be granted. He should have picked 'world peace' or something more lofty and less selfish, but it wouldn't have been the truth. Second guessing is a display of a weak mind, and Yoichi pushes those thoughts away.
The aftermath of the rampaging Pokemon left a large part of Mango City in various states of ruin. Several things are still on fire or smouldering, smoke lingers in the air, children dig for lost Pokeballs in the rubble. Yoichi helps with the cleanup, though he has no skills in this sort of thing nor any supernatural abilities, or even a very useful Pokemon. His Corphish is tasked with using repeated Water Guns to put out small fires in the boba shop; extra energy courtesy of a leftover supply of 'X-Treme Sitrus Revitalisation!'. Yoichi has gathered the glass shards from the broken windows in a bucket, and is presently standing on a ladder and trying to fix a long rectangular fluorescent light that's been half dislodged from the ceiling and hangs precariously. Sliding one side back into its place in the ceiling tiles results in the other side breaking free and entire thing sent down below.]
Watch out!
[Hopefully, it shatters on the floor and doesn't hit someone in the head.

[After getting some money for his work with helping fix up the boba shop, Yoichi's purchased a wheeled cooler and several empty plastic bottles and containers from the PokeMart, as well as a few other items. He can be found walking through the streets and offering bottles of flavoured water; though if anyone saw where it came from, they may be less inclined to drink it. The Corphish rides in the cooler, squirting water into the bottles. It's probably very unsanitary, but it's fine, because the water gets mixed with powdered lemon-lime and orange flavour packs. When not keeping the populace hydrated, Yoichi frequently ventures to the edge of the forest. There, he gathers berries into stackable containers to keep in the cooler to distribute to any of the Pokemon also working on the restoration efforts.]

When the entire thing slides and Yoichi's yell snaps Hien out of it, he dodges to the side, but not quite fully. The end of it still strikes his head... that's going to leave a nasty bump. Is he bleeding? He can't tell, but he's still conscious. It's probably karma for all the times he rendered Toki unconscious. His hand goes to his head while keeping his balance as best as he can and looks up at where Yoichi is, if he's still on the ladder. ]

[Anyone familiar with Hythlo might not be able to find him for a while after the Not Good Very Bad Night - at the very least, not in the places he's usually found, nor around the city. At the same time, anyone who was there on the Not Good Very Bad Night can probably easily figure out the reason for the absence: between the stress of the hallucinations, the fighting and running around and, not least, using his powers, Hythlo exhausted just about all the resources his body had. He's been asleep for the full two days after it, and it's only on the third that he finally wakes up, if only to fall back asleep after a brief conversation with the nurses and a quick meal. On the fourth, he's finally recovered enough to stand up, and is even allowed to go outside for walks. He's mostly fine, the doctors assure him, but it was a very dangerous level of exhaustion: a little more, and he would likely have died. He is now under strict orders to avoid any further stress, which suits him just fine for now, but might prove harder in the future as the visions from The Night come back to haunt him.
Your characters can come visit Hythlo at the hospital during his recovery!

So if you're lucky you might even catch him unmasked and awake.]
II. Meet Me in the Woods Tonight (forest; post-recovery; Nov 2???)
[He walks softly, despite his height, stopping on the clearing at the end of which the trees are starting to grow more thickly. The ground is pretty trodden down: a lot of people must have passed here. Hythlo looks around...
A pair of quivering brown ears pops up from the front of his hoodie: Lucy the Sentret, who brought him here in search of her trainer. She chitters plaintively, looking around the clearing.]

[She looks up at Hythlo and makes a sad, whining noise. She doesn't know... she's not certain... and she's much too scared to come out to look by herself, but she misses Atsushi. Her nose twitches as she tries to pick up any scent, but with the sheer amount of people and Pokemon who were here, fleeing the hell in the city... it's a pointless endeavor. Eventually she goes back to just clinging to Hythlo's shirt, hiding under his hoodie. He sighs softly, patting her on the head.]
'Tis fine. Let us look.
[He heads off into the forest, slowly: though he's recovered, it's still too easy for him to strain himself too much. He doesn't know if he'll find Atsushi there, - and some darker instinct tells him he won't, - nor is he aware of the rumours that it's all too easy to get lost in the woods.]
III. Rock On (cemetery; post-recovery; Nov 2-3????????)
[Today's walk takes Hythlo to the cemetery tower and the territory around it, so recently the place of much pain and destruction; now, a place of grief.
He is accompanied by a new face - if by "accompany" one can mean "sit in Hythlo's hoodie". Lucy the Sentret has been intermittently sleeping on Hythlo's chest, ever since coming to him looking lost and worried. He'd gone off with her in search of her trainer, but the search yielded no results, nor did anyone else see Atsushi since the rampage. A grim conclusion looms in Hythlo's mind, however much he wants it to be a lie.
He spends a little while wandering the cemetery, picking out a good spot... and then lowers himself to his knees gently, taking care not to disturb the sleeping Sentret. He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, holds out a hand...
As he concentrates, there is a gentle glow in the air, like the weaving of a hundred ephemeral threads, forming a shape that slowly grows in size. Eventually, it resolves into a carved marble stone, about a foot in height. Bronze filigree covers its sides, the intricate lines coming together at the top to form a circle with a dot inside it.
Hythlodaeus stays silent for a while, simply looking at his creation. Then he slowly puts a hand to his heart, lowers his head and begins to speak. Whatever language it is, it's alien to anyone who might happen to be listening - only two people have heard speech like this before, but here it doesn't have the complex undertones and counterrhythms they are familiar with. Considering the setting, however, it's not hard to realize that this is most likely a prayer of some sort.
He sits in silence for some more time, adrift among his own thoughts, until Lucy wakes up and meeps at him from the depths of his jacket. Hythlo raises a hand to gently pet the Sentret.]
... 'Tis fine, little one. Wherever he is, the Wanderer shall guide him.
